Hi I am a new member on here. I am thinking about getting a 92-96 Corvette and wanted to check with the people on this forum about I need to check and look at on these year model Corvettes?
I might be looking at a 95 with a 6-speed tomorrow. Thanks

Mainly check paint condition and interior conditions. Leather can be very expensive to have fixed as well as paint flaws. Also, in 92 they used a lighter gray for the interior parts and then switched over to more of a true black later on. I am not sure of the year of the switch, but it may be something to consider which color you like better.

Thank You that is exactly what I am looking for.
The Corvette that I am looking at has 190,000 miles on it but he said it has a new engine in it.
Definitely try for a 95 or 96 or basically the newest one you can get. The mileage is a little high and being a manual that would turn me away. I've had problems in the past with other cars with high mileage on manuals and various things start to go out the clutch master cylinder, the flywheel etc. Just be careful and try to get every piece of documentation from the guy that you can. Make him show you paperwork on the new engine and if the clutch was replaced also the optispark as well. That seems so be the biggest problem with these cars. The later C4's had a vented optispark that really helps and is more reliable. Just be extremely thorough when you check it out and drive it and with that mileage and manual get the receipts and paperwork.
I second going for a 95-96 if possible; the most refined & powerful (save the ZR-1) of the C4 series. The bang for your buck these cars give is amazing! I'd personally look for one with lower miles as they are plentiful.
95 - 96 is a great car. There are lots of them out there. Don't fall in love with the very first one. Try to test drive at least a half dozen so that you will be able to see and feel what a good one is like as compared to a beater.
A car this old is better to buy from a private party than a dealer. Look for a long time owner who has lots of receipts. Don't be afraid to buy from a distance. I flew 1000 miles to get my 95 and it was worth it
I am still looking at buying a Corvette. I sold my motorcycle and I am trying to sell my wife's motorcycle. We do not ride as much as once did so we decided to sell them. The deal was I get a Corvette and she gets a camper.
I went and looked at a 84 with 80,000 miles on it today he was asking $5,000 for it in the ad and when I talked to him on the phone he said he would take $3,500 today, so I went and looked at it. It needed paint, new carpet, seats recovered and the dash did not work, he said it worked sometimes. I think it would cost more money to fix this car than to buy one in good shape to begin with. So I am going to pass on it.
I might go look at a 86 Wed. He is asking $4,500 for it.
I found a 92 Black Rose Corvette, the ad reads "this car is in good running shape. it has abount 135000 i believe. oil has been changed regularly, after martket radio, it is a base car, i got this car a year ago off ebay my dad is a body man he painted for me and i replaced the weather striping on it and look like a top knot. it has aftermarket wheels and new tires put on i so lots of tread! the interior could use recoveing but still not a bad looking car. id like $4500 or obo also open to trades like trucks, cameros i will just about consider anything." I called about it and the gentleman said that his 17yo daughter drives the car and wants something different. He said it has a rebuilt title from several years ago due to a engine fire. I am going to try to look at this car tomorrow.
I looked at the 92 today, the body and paint looked good on the car. It had a ASR light on, at least I think that is what it was, they said the light had been on since they had the car . It has a after market radio in it.
When I first started the car it sounded like the engine had a misfire, and when I got back after the test drive we heard a spark noise and found a plug wire that had came off of the sparl plug. He put it back on and the engine sounding great.
When I drove car the brake pedal went closer to the floor than my truck but it stopped fine. Is this normal? While I was driving the car it felt like the tires had flat spots on them, the longer I drove the car the more the flat spots seem to dissappear. The transmission shifted hard like it had a shift kit in it.Is thius normal?
The oil pressure gauge inside the car was pegged, it maybe a bad sensor.
I also noticed like a film that appeared on the inside of the windshield, like maybe a heater core might be going bad. I did not smell any coolant.
When I was looking the car over I noticed the steering collum was loose, you could shake from side to side. Is this easy fix?
After I drove the the car I smelled oil and seen a little smoke coming from the back of the engine, like a when a valve cover gasket is leaking. I could not see where the oil was coming from. Any ideas?
After the test drive I was checking the lights and I noticed it was getting hot inside the car, so I turned the a/c controls to auto and the car died and did not start back right away, but did finally start and it ran fine after that.
I am not trying to nit pick the car, I know it is a used car but I do not want something that is going to cost a lot of money to fix right off the bat.
They are asking $4,500 for the car. Any advice on this car would be helpful. Thank You
You would be money ahead to shop north of $6500. Lower miles and less neglect/ unresolved maintenance. Believe me that after about 18 months you will be kicking yourself for not buying a little cleaner car.
Try to find an owner who really spent the money repairing the car and just got sick of the costs.
Congratulations on finding a great looking car. I think it's almost always better to stretch the budget a little for a decent car than to buy a rat wagon and try to turn it into a nice ride.
