This afternoon for a few miles my dash would show only "8s"....some 8888 others (like tach 8.8) every display..even toggled off. Turned the dash lights off then on....still the 8s.
A couple of miles down the road it worked suddenly. This is the first time this has happened to me. Have any of you had this happen. What do you suppose went wrong. Oh yeah, I tried switching from metric to English....still 8s.
I have had many problems with my digi-dash over the years but never the all 8's illness. Each time mine crapped out on me I ended up having to send it in for repair and spending a great deal only to have it crap out again as soon as any warranty ended. The third time I made the change illustrated below... Glad I did but I realize this is not for everyone.
You can make your Own gauges @ speedhut.com I love mine the Speedo works off of GPS so it gives you your 1/4 mile time, 0-60 time, milage, and so on. Plus you can design your own gauge face.

I'm no expert on that stuff but it seems like the 8's are some sort of a default. The fact they came back on OK when driving it seems like a bad connection somewhere.
You have made it to the big time and hit the "crazy 8" easter egg. only few have been able to create the exact specifications designed to make this phenomena to happen. In "crazy 8" mode you have unlimited power, unlimited gas mileage and any girl you see will instantly want a ride.

You are a god among men my friend...
Is that like hitting all 7's at the casino, only better? Where does the cash start spitting out of?
Had a similar problem I was lucky it was an easy fix. I cleaned the battery connections really well emery cloth is the best then clean the battery terminals really well you can buy brushes for this make sure your connections are really tight cause they do work loose after a while, then clean the connection of your ground wire. with any luck you will be back on track.
Hi, I appreciate the humor but am afraid that it is a pre (can't think of the proper word) for disaster and needing to spend $.
Default, I understand. I was staring at my alarm clock (at least 40 years old, and digital) the "8 or 8s" use all of the possibilities to make-up the numbers.....no number takes all of the lines.......so, default.
I think I know what happened. I got lost and drove onto a shoulder--sand, rocks, and beer cans and scraped bottom and the ride was quite bumpy. I think I joggled everything. No more off-roading for her.
It will cost you nothing but time to check as many connectors, and especially grounds, as you can. if the problem started after your off-road excursion, you may well have shaken some wiring enough to make an iffy or intermittent connection. But, there is nothing under the car that I am aware of that would have upset your dash readouts.
