I am looking to become a first time vette owner.. I found a 85 vette that's in awesome shape except needs a driver side headlight motor and in the gauges on the mph a few lights are out... how expensive is the dash lights to get fixed??
Likely just bulbs. There are four 882's which come with a white plastic base and are hard to find. I changed all four of mine last week and had to go to two different NAPA's to find enough. They were old stock.
You should be able to find them online.
To change bases with bulbs the cluster must be pulled and disassembled. You can remove the bezel and will see four 3/4" diameter aluminum covers that pop off and reveal the ends of the bulbs which can be unplugged and replaced leaving the bases in place. Don't touch the new bulbs with your fingers.

The halogen suckers behind the metal discs that run like $11.00 apiece?
I went to ace and bought some $8.00 GE 891s.
The bulbs were around $8.00 each, but I've seen higher prices online.
By the way, I've had my '85 for ten years and it has been a great car.
There are not many people around still knowledgable enough to work on them though. This site has a wealth of info if you don't mind working on the car yourself.
Do you know anyone that has converted to LED lights on the gauges? I really like this style or vette
No, but I would be interested and have meant to look into this. I had mine apart to fix an intermittant problem with the display blinking on and off and found three of the bulbs were bad. I replaced all four while it was apart and was in a hurry to get it back together so I could drive the car to Carlisle last week.
The problem with the display turned out to be a bad ground-likely caused when my torque converter was replaced last year. Gordan Killebrew has an easy fix for this which I learned at Carlisle.
Taking the cluster out is not fun. It is easier if the top of the dash is removed, but that is a project in itself.
Pulling the bezel is easy and take only minutes, so changing bulbs from the front is no big deal.
I wouldn't let the display scare you. Worse case, you send it off to one of a couple good rebuilders who will do some upgrades while they work on it. $350-$450, but it will be better then new.
Well I found this 85 I really want.. red on black and in great shape for $4000... just have to talk the wife into it.. although once she gets in it I'm sure everything will change
