Default pulled the trigger

Been kicking the tires around here for a few years now, throwing out a bit of advice on repairs and such. Tried to buy this or that Vet at one time or another..but being an over the road trucker, I always ended up a day late on a decent deal. There was an 86 about 30 miles away on evil bay, the guy also listed it once on craigs list, where I spotted it. Told the guy I would give him 23 for it..with 5 days left on the bay, the response wasnt to warm.Upped it to 2,5. , same response or lack of. Bidding over,,priced at 2,850. Guy in NJ had the winning bid. I sent an email, if the guy backed out, call me. He did back out. Bought the thing today for 24. Wife drove it home...first thing she did was lay a strip, laughed my butt off..we hadnt even bought it yet, was a test drive. The car needs a few parts includidng tires, been sitting a while. The smile on her face, when driving it home , was worth the price.
I wouldnt have bought it for the shape its in, buts it driveable and road worthy..needs a valve job..bit of blue smoke on start up PLUS, it gold..one of 777 built that year, so thought it was worth a shot. Sigh, heater/ac fan aint working, busted corner off glass top, digital dash is like my brother in law, works when it wants to,and dont know why, but is missing the drivers wiper arm. jeeze, bubba musta been in town. Anyway, heres another gokld vet that wont end up in the junk pile being parted out, she's a ripper..purrs like a cat in a dairy, sounds great, and just what the Breast cancer survior needs in her life to put that smile back on her face.

Good buy! Guy down the road from me owns a pristine Gold Metallic 86 coupe with 4+3. It has been Bloomington Gold Certified. It is a sharp car. Only 691 coupes were sold in this color.
Your new best friend will be Jason at www.vette2vette.com. Your valves are probably OK. The smoking at start up is usually due to worn valve stem seals which are not too expensive to replace.
Let's see some pics now!

Damn... 6 years here and you first bought one, or did I miss something where you got rid of one? I know you post a lot of finds in the for sale section.

Either way Congrats, and props to the self control to obstain at least 6 years.

Yes, I was door gunner, then crew chief, with the 129th Assault helicopter Company, then with the 60th AHC, both were in 2 corp. We flew from ..say Camn Ron up to LZ English/Bong Son, from Quin Hon into An Khe/ Pleiu Ku. I flew Americans on a CA only once. WE mainly supported S. Korea Inf.,..the Tiger Div and the White Horse Div.Did you know they dug up the French legion soliders in the Mang Yang Pass (buried standing up ,facing France)and returned them to France? Know An Khe and Vung Ro (tuy Hoa) pass very well..lost guys in both.Years 1971,72 for me.The PIC is one of our birds that was bought and restored by a very nice guy, in England.Me and 2 other guys were invited over there by the BBC to be interviewed and once again fly. Mixed emotions from a few bad memories, but over all was great. You can google Huey 509, see "inside out", and view the interview.Welcome home Vets..Nam Vets..welcome home brothers.
Yep, been here since 2006.Been a few factors that have prevented be from pulling the Trigger, cost of Meds being one.well, I really dont have to explaine, most have had not so nice times hit them. Another reason I pulled the trigger on this one..they have found "something" on the wifes right lung..will hopefully find out what monday..but just in case..she deserves the best damn car ever made, a corvette. As my love of the car has been with me since 1965, I thought perhaps it was time to stop kicking tires. I ahve been in here helping folks with simple engine problems and such..I have a healthy mechanical history behind me..but the point is, even tho I wasnt an owner,I was helping those fortunate enough to own one. That, my friend, tells of the love for these cars.Oh,, I have also helped "hands on" on a few vets around here..guys without knowledge but still humble, gracious, and lots of fun to know. One other thing, I have been putting together an engine in my garage for a while now, no hurry, didnt have a car to put it in, but knew..there would come a day..lol. Off the sidelines now, cheering all on, and have joined the game myself.
