Hello, looks like the battery in my 1991 is getting weak. I remeber a long time ago a 9 volt plug in cigaarette thing that would hold a charge for the computor, stereo etc to allow changing the battery so you would not have to reset everything. Anyone know if this is still avalible or will I need to reset everything when i swap out the batteries? Guess im going to look at the manuals as well as advice here.
Thanks, Drew the newbie to my 1991 corvette.
If you are a newb, here's the scoop on changing the battery. Remove the top bolts holding the plastic panel next to the battery. Then three or four in the tire well. Loosen a single bolt at the bottom of the panel. Pull the panel off, remove the battery hold down and disconnect the + and -, pull the battery out from the side.
NOT WANTING to hijack this thread..BUT I have always thought the Computer had to relearn your "driving style" if it was disconnected.. Maybe I'm just having another senior moment but when I re-connect the battery I always have a leaf foot for a day or so when I pull away from a stop sign etc...I did this with my 95 until I traded it in for a new 98 and have done it on the 88 35th ANC I purchased a few years ago...
Oh well if its a myth its ok because my method is FUN anyway

The ECM stores all the error codes and 16 BLMs (Block Learn Multipliers) in RAM. The BLMs are used to calculate the injector pulse width for various driving conditions, based on input from the O2 sensor.
When you disconnect power to the ECM all the error codes are erased and the BLMs are reset to a default value (120) which is fairly close to the "ideal" 128 (for 14.7 AFR). The BLMs are then adjusted by the ECM as you drive. They are only adjusted when the ECM is in closed loop mode (engine hot). That's the "learning" part.
