Default My 1st Vette!!!

Well, its official, I got my 1st Vette!! 1986 coupe, 53k. Will be bringing it home Monday or Tuesday.

1st thing that will eventually go are the wheels. I want to keep this car as factory stock as possible. Here are some pictures...

Very nice first Vette. These cars are very addictive. I have to agree with you on getting rid of the wheels. Don't be afraid to ask questions, the guys on this forum are very helpful and informative.

Thanks for the great welcome everyone! Now its time to start getting my hands dirty. It really needs a good interior detail. Passenger door panel is pulled away a little from the top. Mostly lots of minor details (not to be unexpected especially considering what I paid). The only issue that is of a small concern is that there is an exhaust leak, it sounds like its coming from the pipes themselves (like maybe a doughnut gasket) not the manifold (CI heads by the way, car is about 2000 units short of getting the Al heads).

I don't have too much history on it other than what carfax listed which was just smog tests and owner changes (i'll be the 4th).

The current owner only owned it a couple years. Only reason he's selling it is because he wants to cut an album (CD for the younger crowd ). Im not actually dealing with him but a friend of his. He is totally into cars, bikes ect so I feel totally comfortable about the whole thing. The current owner replaced the heater core and alternator. I think thats the only thing major that was done since he owned it. He does have a set of Accel wires ready to go on. So i'll be doing a complete tune up.

Speaking of tune ups. I haven't had to change a cap and rotor in years! Any recommendations on replacements? Accel, MSD, AC-delco?

I did notice that none of the bulbs on the CHMSL are working. So hopefully just the bulbs are burned out. Main brake lights do work though. The other change I'll be making is it has the amber tail light option. I've noticed a lot of people on this forum love that. No offense to those people but I personally HATE it. I want to see 2 RED lights on both sides. I'm throwing around the idea of going to LED but since I want to stay stock I probably won't do that, just get 2 red lenses. I'll trade with anyone who wants the amber ones.

The paint isn't in too bad of shape. The top of the tail section has a couple spots where the clear is lifting. Other than that it just needs a good clay bar and buff.

I could ramble on about all the other stuff I want to do but i've made this reply long enough. LOL

And yes, I noticed how there is tons of info here and members do a great job with all kinds of advice.

Thanks again guys and if anyone here is in the southern cali area (I live in Murrieta) and wants to go for a cruise just let me know!

Scott

Wheels would look a lot better with the right profile tire on it.
Kind of fits that era. Car has potential, nice buy.
