Hi and thanks for any help, feedback or suggestions you can provide. I have a 94 six-speed with 103,000 on it. When I am in first and start to accelerate the car has a real hard time moving forward. It kind of whines and strains before it begins to actually move, particularly if it is on a hill. Additionally, the tach needle moves higher than it normally has in the past.
Any comments or suggestions would be highly appreciated and thanks for your time.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping but that is ONLY my gut reaction and thought based upon your description.
kinda hard to help based on a vast description, but it does sound like it could be clutch slippage. once underway does the tach rise faster than normal when accelerating? does it seem like the engine revs and the car does not accelerate?
have you replaced any parts recently or had the car serviced?
And while you're there you might wnat to replace the clutch too.
try some 2nd or 3rd gear starts, this should let you know real quick if your clutch is slipping. Also does it do it if cruising at say 40-45mph in
4th and you accelerate w/o downshifting?

Opti is unlikely but there is a simple 6 speed ignition test a DIY'er can perform...Accelerate to ~20mph. Shift to 5th gear. In a controlled but fast manner go WOT. If the car accelerates smoothly (albeit very slowly), the opti and ignition system is fine. If the car kicks and misses...ignition issue. It will be one of three things...plugs, wires, or opti.
Since your issue is on a hill and the tach needle moves faster than it should...clutch is most likely.
