Default Engine Fire - this sucks!

Driving along last Thursday minding my own business she starts to sputter, the dash lights start to go wild and as I start to pull off to the side of the road in traffic going 30mph - all sorts of dark smoke comes pouring out from under the hood. Let me tell you - it took me 10 seconds to stop the engine, pop the hood, grab my fire extinsher and put her out. At first it look like the tranny line dropped and most off the smoke from from transmission fluid hitting the headers. The fire department took 8 minutes to get there and local township police 3 minutes.

Now, I just heard back from the shop - looks like the starter cable that goes to the battery came off - caused and arch and started a chain reaction. I'm still waiting on the formal quote from my shop but this is what I wrote down.
Shorted and replaced Tranny line, trans fluid, starter, starter line, starter cable, all cables and wires in that area, o2 sensor, knock sensor and all connectors and cables in the right bank side. Cost: $1235.00.

Now the good news - after my $500.00 insurance deduct - I can go upto $1350.00 without causing any problems with my rates - I just snuck in.

Now for the best news - seeing this is more than starting to nickle and dime me (battery, alternator, water pump, opti, etc....all recently), its time to upgrade to a newer vette. Found a 98 Coupe auto with performance axle with ONLY 6300 miles for $24900.00...but its an R title. Pervious owner had minor hood and bumper damage at 600 miles, fixed it perfect and drove it for the last 3 years, adding only around 6000 more miles on her. Other than the R title - it sounds like a steal.

Anyone want to by a good 92 LT1 with LOTS of new parts??

I would run a carfax on it, the (R) on a title is not good, I could be wrong but it means at least 3 major parts were replaced.

Sorry to hear that. I'm glad you're ok and it could have been a lot worse I am sure.
