Default Leather seat replacements

I’m posting this for a friend who has an 87 coupe.

He is going to recover his seats and has a choice between the perforated and a non-perforated seating surface. They are available both ways.

What is the advantage of one over the other? His main concern is tearing between the tiny holes in the perforated type. He also wants to keep the car as original as possible.

My input was that the non-perforated seat would be really hot and sweaty.

Thanks !

I believe the perforated was stock for sport seats. He should get the one that is stock if he wants to maintain the stock looks of the car.

Go for the Perfs. I found a new set on ebay and am very happy with them. Also make sure to replace the seat foams, well worth the extra bucks. :yesnod:

I don't have sport seats and mine are perforated. Stock from the factory.

If I am not mistaken (and I usually am) I believe the perforated are real leather and the non-perforated are vinyl like leather.

89 sport seats non-perforated from the factory - leather.
89 Replacement sport seats non-perforated - leather.

Non perforated can get sweaty in very muggy hot weather
Perforated will rip sooner.

Choices, choices.

Perforated will rip sooner
- not necessarily true - the original seats in my '85 (17 year old standard-perforated) have yet to rip. i agree, that the non-perforated may be slightly hotter/muggy.
