Default Stat stuck open?

Hey everyone. Took a ride around the backroads of temecula and the palomar mtn area. It was a cool night, probably somewhere in the mid 60s. The roads have a 55mph speed limit. My temp readback on my '86 went as low as 144. It basically stayed around 150ish. Went I got back on the highway doing 70, it stay around 170.

Does this sound like a thermostat thats stuck open? Seems to run way too low.

Thanks!

Scott

I had the same thing when I got my 87.

Turned out it didn't have ANY thermostat.

Put in a 180 and all fixed..

If it ran at normal temps (185-225) before this and the problem just started, I'd bet on the t'stat being bad. The car would be fine with a 195 degree t'stat as I have in my 85. But many install a 180 degree t'stat trying to keep it cooler. ( P.S. Stay out of the hot stuff brother.)

I've only had the car less than 2 weeks and last night was the 1st time i've drove it on a cool night. I thought it had a 170 or 180 in it cause thats where it generally was unless i was in stop and go traffic. Ok, i'll add tstat to the "to do" list lol

Well I found that there is a 160deg thermostat installed. I also checked the eeprom and it is stock. Shouldn't you update the prom if you go to something other than a stock stat? I bought a 180 to replace it.

You won't need to change anything if you stay with the 180 degree T'stat.
