I just bought a 1993 conv two weeks ago. I knew it needed a water pump and after seeing a video online decided to do it myself. The video mentioned dex cool but none of the issues. I went to pep boys and bought it. I never checked the forum or even knew what was different about it other than the color. The new pump and optispark went well but I only drained system and did not perform a flush. I just happened to mention the dex cool to a friend who told me it was wrong coolant and won't mix well with what is left of green stuff. Car has been driven about 20 miles since. It runs about 2/3 to 3/4 of way to hot hash marks. It does not overheat. At this piunt should I attempt a flush and return to green or just leave well enough alone? Has any damage already been done driving around Philly traffic? Thanks for any help. I wish I had just read forum in advance!
Drain the radiator, pull the block plugs (knock sensor), fill with water, run for a few minutes until the water is at operating temperature. Run the heater. Suck the coolant out of the reservoir. Repeat, repeat, refill with distilled water and either green or red coolant.
Thank you for the reply. Is it likely that I caused permanant damage?
When re-installing knock sensors - do you apply thread sealant and do you know torque spec?
I really appreciate the help. Thanks Again,
Andy

You didn't cause permanent damage. Personally I would flush the system several times to ensure all the coolant has been removed.
On the knock sensors, you'll need to add a little liquid teflon to the threads or most times they'll leak even though there will be some old factory sealer left in place. The Teflon won't have a material effect on their performance.
Torque spec is very low for the knock sensors...~15 lb/ft. A Factory Service Manual will have the exact spec or tighten them by hand until snug. You do not bottom out the sensor in the block when installing.
