Default tinting glass top??

I went up to the tint shop a little while ago to see if they could tint the top. I wanted to get it tinted as dark as possible to help block the heat. Well, they said they couldnt do it because the with the tint on, it would cause the glass to absorb all the heat and it would eventually shatter. I guess I will go back to the static cling stuff. Has anyone ever heard of this happening, the shop guy said he saw it happen once a long time ago.

I also hate the glass top! I just got a headliner from Mid America Corvettes and it blocks a great deal of the heat and also saves the interior! It was $75 and was easy to instal. Or you can try to find a hard top also. I've never heard of tinting the glass top.

Ive never heard of tinting it either, but thought I would give it a shot. Nobody down here wants to part with their solid top, too hot. Ive got one of those headliner deals in there right now, just not happy with how it looks. Im **** like that.

you can make a cover for the glass top. On my 91 solid top, the headliner was falling. I removed the cardboard and redid the headliner. Now, I have a 93 with a glass top and the heat is killer. I am going to fabricate out of thick cardboard, a cover for the glass. Should not cost me more than$20 bucks and a couple of hours of my time. I plan on painting the top in white which is the color of my car.

Did they realize that the top is not glass, and it is acrylic?

Yeah, they said it will not hold up as well as the back or side windows because it is acrylic.

My Glass top looks like :U Is there no way to change this? It looks like it's literally SHATTERED, is there any way I can fix this? I dunno if it's like the factory tint coming off or what. I'll try to snap a pic of it and show yall.

I have no idea if that is true or not but a buddy of mine got the same story from a tint shop in Evansville, Indiana.

JP... call the vette shop in tampa that you tried for the used door panels.. he sells solid tops for 300-350 if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't put a glass top in my car again in FL.

JP....I have the static cling sunliner and it works really well for me here in Punta Gorda. It does a good job of keeping you from getting roasted and I have never heard of anyone's top shattering from anything like this.....hope it works out for you! :seeya

I had the static cling tint on before the head liner insert that I have now. The headliner insert works well, Im just not happy with how it looks. Oh well, we will see what happens, really would like a solid top, just dont want to pay that much for it.
