Hello to all c4 owners. I don't know if it happens at other car shows accross the country. For the second time in the last 3 shows our c4 class was passed over when it came time for awards. I don't mind not finishing the top 3. However I don't think that it is fair when all other vette classes are awarded for there efforts and we aren't. There may not have been as many c4's then the others but we are there. I won't say which shows,I don't want to upset anyone I'm just venting.
I went to a car show a few months ago and it was my first one with my C4. I wasn't even ready for a show, but my buddy invited me to it and said I should show mine, you get a free t-shirt, free food and great parking! And 89 convertible beat me out, even though mine was much nicer condition! They did have an award for each generation though.
You're going to find that if you go to a show expecting an award, you're going to be disappointed many many times. If it is spectator voting the guy with the most friends wins, if it is a judged show then whatever kind of car the judge likes is going to win. I was president of a local club that put on a show every year and although we prided ourselves on our unbiased judging we still had unhappy people. Once we gave best engine to a guy who's car was a bone stock inline 6 cylinder Nova. That engine had never looked as good from the factory. A guy with a big blown & chromed out engine was highly miffed. Go to have fun & enjoy the company of others with similar interests as you & if you win, great, if not you plan a supper with a new friend. To me that is worth one hell of a lot more than a trophy.
One of the reasons why I havent been in many car shows yet I'm happy being a spectator. I have more fun driving my Corvette than showing it. I believe my car is my trophy even though in the past two years my car scored four trophies.
I have a clean nice 40th, and it gets lots of positive comments. My feelings are this, I'm done with car shows/cruise-in's etc.....other than my VERY local stuff.
I'm tired of sitting around half the day with folks who don't want to talk to anyone else and so forth.
To heck with all that crap, I'm going to take my clean 93 and go racing.
Oh, wait I did that today, got comments on how clean it was. Then I preceded to run the crap out of it. Didn't hurt a thing.
I did two auto-x's this weekend and a total of 16 runs. I only hit 3 cones, 1 minor cone scuff. The other two got absorbed by the car bra.

Forget the car shows. Take it to the track and let the timeslips will show the winner, no ifs, ands or buts.
I don't give a rotten ratz azz what anyone says 'bout my car. Judging is toooooo subjective, as pointed out.
I don't enter my car in competitions, but I'm a car guy and I like seeing all kinds of cars. If people stop by and ask questions about the car, fine. IF they just walk by, that's OK w/ me too (I prolly would walk by their mini-van too - the one parked outside the show).
I remember one cruise night where beside my sparkling ZR-1 was an old Dodge Dart with a slant 6 cylinder in it. The car was completely restored, and must have cost a fortune if only the hours spent restoring it. Crowds of people flocked over to oogle the thing, but the Z hardly got a second glance. I though that was amusing, but hey! Car people like all kinds of cars. Yet, on other nights I've spent much of the time answering questions about my car, while scores took pictures of the engine (can't blame them!). Same venue. Go figure!

Well I went to Raceway Park in PA 2 years ago and I paid $30 to enter the Show and Go contest. In the end I shared 3rd place (Yes shared) with 3 other people with C4s. I guess you can say I paid for my trophy. What a joke. At least some of the people were friendly.
Same stuff happens to us joliet, il. A small group puts on a vette show every year at a local Chevy dealer and all the people who put on the show win all the awards. I take it with a grain of salt. They are the ones who go through the effort to put on the show so maybe they deserve something for their effort. At least it's someplace for me to go and look at the cars and check out the swap meet goodies.

I just never understood the car show thing. You spend hours upon hours cleaning and detailing, only to go to a parking lot, plop down a folding chair and sit beside your car all day. To be honest, I'd rather watch paint dry. Don't get me wrong I enjoy going to see the cars every now and then, but once I've seen them all I get bored very quickly and it's time to go. I'd much rather be out there driving the crap out of it on a nice day.
I find the judging at most cars just is a joke (not all but most) I love to go and look around at car shows but haven't put a car in one in about 8 years.

Just my 2 cents.
Not to mention me paying them $30 to show my own car. Is it normal practice to charge to show your car? Like I said before it was like paying for my own trophy. Thinking about it after then, and now again, makes me say again, "that is so stupid".

...and like 93Rubie and 383vett, I far prefer to use the car on the race track.
For me there is nothing like flying down a straight at 140/150mph+ with a 90* left hand sweeper that requires heavy braking while inches off someones bumper and someone inches off my bumper. Talk about trust in your fellow driver's skill
Nonetheless, I totally understand that some prefer the car show route. To each their own
I used to go to car shows with my old Camaro (1994, 27k miles as of when I sold it earlier this year) and it was hilarious to see everyone get pissed when some 17 kid in an $7k 4th gen F-Body was beating all of the 1st and 2nd gen Camaros that had gone under $40-$50k restorations.
It saddens me too when everyone overlooks the C4's. I agree with some of the previous posts, who cares what other people think? Just go to a track and have fun!
Well the first judged show I went to, I came home with a second place trophy for modified C4, something I didn't expect as I just went for fun. The show was for "show and shine" so correctness was not an issue. I know I lost points for a dirty engine bay and scratches in my glass, stuff like that. My gripe is people winning with new cars. I can't tell you how many people enter these shows with 2012 Mustangs, 2012 Camaros and C6's just off the showroom floor and get trophies! All they did was pony up for a brand new car and throw some Armor All on it. At least us C4 guys have done our job as car guys to keep these cars running and looking good. I think we should get extra points for that, that's dedication.
Car shows are for trailer queens that never see a highway
A car that actually gets driven does not stand a chance unless it has had a fresh ground up restoration, unfair maybe but judges do have a standard to go by. Yes i agree that its who you know and how well known you or the car is sometimes
This is pretty much the case world wide but there are more categorys created all the time
I go to the odd car show to represent the CHEVROLET CORVETTE with pride I do not go expecting to win anything as my car has done many miles and has lots of stone chips, she even has some small scratches / scrapes.... can you imagine the look on a judges face to see a scar on a car
Well i am not going to paint my car every 2 years to win trophys
She gets driven rain hail or shine even on gravel and dirt roads
So enjoy your corvette and show her with pride, i would prefer to see a great example that is driven and loved. If you want to see a beauty queen go to the Corvette museum
Its fun going to a show to look..never entered a car show..guess mine would win the "biggest piece of crap", lol. I guess c-4s are still the step child of vettes.

Well said.
I made a photo collage of my 93 of me racing it, just to take to car shows and put on the dash. My Vette is clean but not pristine, perfect clean. I tell people I race the car, they are like NO way.
I should win a LOT of car shows just for the fact I use the car and STILL keep it nice. That takes dedication and time.
Don't get me started on NEW cars winning at car shows. That is total .
