Default LT4 Engine

I have a question concerning the LT4 engines. Did they have "Grand Sport" in red lettering on them, even if they weren't true Grand Sports?

Thanks Scorp,

I've been keeping an eye on this black LT4 with 33,000 miles on it that's been sitting on a dealer lot for a couple of months. It started at $27,000, then was lowered to $24,000. The car is in beautiful shape and I've had it checked out by someone else, since I don't trust my own judgement anymore. I'll probably offer them $19,000 and see if they bite.

Scorp is correct, and $24K is too high for an LT4 coupe with 33K miles.

The key is the VIN if you are worried about a fake, since it would be easy to change the throttle body plate and paint/change the intake. The engine code for the LT4 is a 5. For the LT1 it is a "P".

I can't remember which digit it is.

If the 8th didgit is a "5" the it is an LT4, and must be a six speed tranny.
Good luck!!

What do you think it would be worth, ballpark? I will tell you that it is black on black, one top (black), regular suspension, and I don't think it has the sport seats (unless they moved the lumbar support). The exterior is in great condition and the interior is almost perfect.

To my severe ire, kbb.com lists the car as you describe it to be worth between $20K and $21.5K.

I just called and got the VIN# and the 8th digit is a 5. So it is an LT4.

Thanks

$24k should get a nice ZR1 though.

I gave 24.5 for mine, black on red with 17k miles and brand new rubber.
Probably gave too much, but I found kbb.com to be low compared to
what people actually would take for their cars.

I was going to buy a ce lt4 with 37k for 23.5, the guy had got it from
a corvette dealer last year for 26.5, and said the same dealer responded to his
add and offered him 22.5.

Find a good independent wrencher and have him go over it, and do a carfax.
good luck

Ken

I paid $20,500 for a low optioned black/black LT4 car with 20k miles 2 years ago.

It needed rear rubber.

If you could get it for $20,000 or less it would be a good deal. There are a lot of Vettes out there with low milage for around that price range. THe LT4 is a great motor. Mine has alot of options, dual tops, Z51, Bose Gold CD, etc. and 2 years ago it was around $21,000.
Good luck!!

I have a black/black LT4 with 19,250 miles. It has both tops and the Z51 suspension. The car is nearly perfect, inside and out. I'd like to talk to you about buying this car if you're interested.
