Default Dim instrument panel

I'm a noob here and a noob with the C4 Corvette...

I have searched the forums and have found reference to this problem but, so far, I have found no concrete remedy.

My 1995 C4 LT1 has a dim instrument cluster that is almost impossible to
read with these old tired eyes. I have read several possible remedies but not a sure fire fix. I'm not one to pull out a dash just to "try" something that might work. I would rather spend the money and replace something with a new part if that is indeed the problem.

Any ideas what this may be? (and yes...I checked the dimmer switch)

Thanks and this is a great site...I fell asleep at my Pc last night reading posts on this and that and everything in between!

The dash has two different lighting modes.

One is during the day. There is a light sensor that adjusts the backlighting to the ambient light level.

The second is at night. This is controlled by the dimmer potentiometer on the headlight switch.

Many times a dim dash is caused by burned out backlights.

Another possibility is that the polarizing film on the front of the cluster has "burned" away due to a lot of exposure to sunlight. Sometimes wearing polarizing sunglasses will fix this temporarily (and tell you where the problem is).

I recently purchased a set of "polarizing sunglasses" and while it is true that the image presents itself as a darker, more evident image, it still seems a little out of sorts.
Thank you though for your input...it has helped...I love this forum for its resource of knowledge.
Cheers

Once after replacing my tranny, after startup, my instrument panel was dark as night. Traced it to a ground wire that wasn't fastened onto the middle bellhousing bolt on the driver's side. Not sure if this is your problem, but it was mine.

I know this is an old post, but did you ever get the problem solved? I suddenly have the same issue on my '96.
