I was looking to do a coolant flush on my new C4 before the winter. I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to working on cars, but my corvette has me ready to learn. Is this a difficult task at all? I am assuming it is as easy as draining the radiator, running water through it to clear it out, and filling it back up with coolant. Anyone have any tips or advice?
I saw this picture in an older post yesterday while I was researching the same topic for the same reason. This is definitly a cool way to go but I dont know what to call the brass parts when I go shopping or what the thread pattern/count/twist is.
I'm obviously have some issues with the terminology - HELP!
The brass piece is a pipe fitting to hose adapter so the flexible tubing can be put on. Some folks do not like to take the knock sensor(s) out because of the risk of the threads messing up, i.e., after not being removed for maybe 25 years. An alternative is to take the bottom radiator hose loose so water will drain from BOTH the radiator and engine. I think you also want to have your heater thermostat open although I can't remember how the heater core on the Vettes are shaped and whether it will drain. Draining the block in addition to the radiator will enable you to flush it to clear water without many exchanges of water. Also, don't forget that you will need to "burp" the system when refilling with anti-freeze mixture so that it will be full. You can do a search on the forum to get details on this process. This is one thing that is different with the C4's compared to most cars. Finally, while you are messing with this, you might want to check in the area just in front of the radiator and behind the A/C condenser for trash. It is amazing how many leaves and junk get in there. Again, details are described in details on the forum. Fairly easy but takes some time.
