What year? Check for spark and then check to see if you have fuel pressure and the injectors are working. With the sparse info you would need to ask the Great Karnak.

By your subject line, I thought you had gotten passed by a 1953 Vette.

Obviously need more info about the car, but where did the flame appear? Out of the cowl area? Other than the"pop" were there any other strange mechanical noises?

OMG There are so many different ways go with this.
SO rather than ask if the OP was lighting his own farts at 75mph.......

Can you offer any further info?
Year model would be nice.
You could start with filling in your profile

I agree with everyone else, you gave us nothing to go on, however, the first thing that comes to mind is the timing chain or gears let go.

Could be the fuel pump died, check there is pressure remove fuel rail cap and attach a pressure guage. Can you hear the fuel pump brrrr when you turn ignition on without trying to start the car, it will run for a few secs then turn off until the ECM senses the engine is running.
The fuel pump relay is on the firewall close to the wind shield wiper motor, you can activate it via the acl connector under the dash.
Will need to check my service manual so ask if you need to know which terminals and i will reply.

The module in the distributor can fail, so check spark then fuel pressure.

Usually only L/P gas (propane) burns a blue flame....

(note good idea to add the year of your vette in your profile or when posting a question)..
