Located my first Vette (SWC) in Toledo OH by VIN w/some help. Sold it in Md to a dlr in a hurry when I got drafted by LBJ in 66.

Sent the latest owner some pics from 1966 and the original "Chatell Mortgage" from the Bank.
That's what the banks used back then on auto loans

When he opened the letter he must have said WTF is this. This ain't my color.

Never heard from him. Me thinks he got a bad apple.

Added to this the current title list the car as White/Siver. Now I wonder if the 86K on the meter is correct. However it runs great and looks great so maybe I will just leave it alone and enjoy.

When I bought my 87, I knew the two prior owners. But beyond that, I didn't know much about the car's history. Not long after I bought it, I decided to get the build sheet and window sticker from the NCM.

I was surprised to find that the car was originally sold to GM Environmental Services in Warren MI. The car was there for one year and then sold to a private party. I found that registration form buried with some paperwork. The person that had bought the car drove it for a year or so and then moved to my area.

The car had then sat for a few years when it was purchased by a friend of mine. He did a bunch of work on it, drove it for awhile and sold it to a co-worker of mine. Then I bought it from him.

Again, I would recommend to the OP that he purchase the build sheet and window sticker from the NCM. At least that way, he gets the specific RPO information, the MSRP of the car, and the name of the selling dealer.

A couple posts asked why someone would want to know previous history. It's one of those "YMMV" things but I certainly would love to detail my car's life. It actually can be fun - if you enjoy the challenge - to do the research.

My '92 came from the St Louis area and I only have the Carfax and a couple other stray bits of info - I'm either the 4th or 5th owner as near as I can tell. I know 2 previous owners but not sure before that.

And it's also fun to track down previous Vettes. My '67 which I sold in about 1970 is titled in Indiana altho I have no further details. I'd love to find my first car, a '59 Vette, but the VIN does not show as active to it's probably gone. And my ex-wife's '58, which she sold in about '72, is now titled in Washington state, clear across the country.

Some folks care, others don't.
