!@#$%^&! top!!!!
OK is there a spefic way to bolt the top on? I had the worst experience today. I had the top off a few days ago, and it rained yesterday and it was fine. I go out to the car today to go to work. I have a small puddle on the plastic cover near the door jam. Ok no biggie get in the car the seat is soaked to the bone. So i go in the house to change pants and grab towels. Start to mop up and i must have jolted the car just right and water came streaming from the bolt hole and on to my head. So now i'm wet on both ends. So pissed i just said F** it and went to work. Is there a way you are supposed to bolt these things on? It always leaked a little but not like this.

Always start with the car on level ground. Then put the top on, and tighten the front screws on either side first, and THEN tighten the rear screws. Ever since someone told me to do it that way, mine hasn't leaked since.

I think the owners video (at least the 1990 video) says to:
1) start the front bolts, but only tighten halfway
2) tighten rear bolts fully
3) finish front bolts
And always do it in the same order, for example: if you start on the drivers side, do the drivers side front, then pass. front, then drivers rear, then pass. rear, then drivers front, and then finally pass. front.
Good luck!

The Ideal fix is the one i went with. a) Put top on vehicle b) Trade it on a convertible. :D

Here are instructions from a '92 manual: :smash:

1) Follow steps 1-7...
2) Open the rear hatch and remove...
3) Lower the roof panel onto the top of the vehicle, rear edge first, placing
the rear guide pins of the roof panel into their locating holes.
4) Lower the front of the roof panel and position the front guide pins.
5) Use the wrench to partially tighten the two rear attaching bolts.
6) Use the wrench to loosely start the front two attaching bolts, making
sure the bolts are property threaded into the roof panel. If the front
bolts seem hard to start, tighten the rear bolts some more. Also holding
down the panel on the outside will help you start the bolts.
7) Fully tighten the rear bolts, then the front bolts. If the bolts aren't tight
enough, the roof panel may make a poping noise while you drive. If this
happens, tighten the bolts securely.
