I am sure this one has probably been posted before. I changed out battery on car and now the radio is locked. Oh well, live and learn.
Called local Chevy dealer and asked for help getting unlock code. They told me they couldn't help me.
Hoping someone on the forum can steer me in the right direction to aquire the code.
Thanks for the help,
William
Bag it in a large ziplock freezer bag and put it into the freezer for 30 mins. The cold is supossed to wipe the memory. Old urban legend I remember from the late 80 early 90s. Never tried but it susposed to work on these old radio system only. GC

And if that doesn't work and while you have it out, replace it with an aftermarket unit. Originality for these cars (if that's what you're worried about) means very little.

speaking of old urban legends, i'm thinking the default code is 1111 - give it a try...

LOL no argument from me. Great time to upgrade!!!
That's what I did in my 90! Here's the one I got and it fits perfectly!
Thanks for all the replies. I really don't want to pull the radio out and I want to keep the car stock as possible.
IF I had read the owners manual, I would have known this. It gives the details on checking if the radio has an unlock code.
Thanks Joe C, I will try the default code.

Thanks Wildride. As I read it, you have to know the code. It also states if you don't know the code see your dealer. The local dealer refused to help. I have been told there is a list or book that lists te unlock code by vin number. I was hoping a member would have access to this information.
I appreciate all replies/hep.

i'll bet that if you scheduled a service call and paid the $125/hour labor rate, they could unlock your radio - as far as a book or list to unlock the radio, that would only be valid if the original or previous owner didn't change the factory code. again, i'm thinking the factory default code is 1111 (all radios left the factory with that code), but the dealer might have a way of overiding the lock feature. wouldn't be a good design feature if there wasn't some sort of "unlock overide".
You send them two sets of numbers by pressing a sequence of
buttons and they will send you the unlock code.
You could also send a (PM) Private Message to user WVZR-1 who I
believe works at a GM dealership and he might be able to get the
info you're looking for.

My experience has been that most previous owners never entered a secret code into the Bose. "000" was a factory default code. That being the case, use the procedure on Page 179 with a code of "000". It just might work!
