Any recommendations?
Are you positive the problem wasn't caused by a bad
oil seal in the timing cover?

So you made the problem worse than it originally was.

Petris appears to standby his Opti. Not cheap. Says limited life time
warranty. Of course if the company goes out of business the warranty is worthless.

Well here I am not paying attention again. I just edited my previous post on page #1, then I noticed we have become a two page thread.

I don't consider it worse because if the last drive was anything like the near future holds at least it's not dying and leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Here again I might have done something which could be causing the miss. There is a pan gasket leak at the front of the motor and there was ample evidence of that leak on the front of the block. I saw no oil leaking from the shaft as I understand why you thought this might be happening. I couldn't stand putting it back together like that so I spent about an hour degreasing it with some of that purple stuff, a tooth brush and the garden hose. The only time I can spray the motor off is when the distributor is out. I probably got some water in the ends of the plug wires. They were packed with dielectric grease the last time it was assembled. It was about 2:00 a.m., cold and tired and really needed to get to the place I am today for Thanksgiving, so I just shook out the caps and plugged them in. Water probably got in a few of them and I don't know it it would be enough to cause miss-fires.

Even though it doesn't run as good as it did, at least I did something that caused a change to the stall condition and that is something I really like given everything I had done, none of which did a thing to address the stalls. Ha ha, unless you count putting the wrong ICM in which just made the stalls very predictable. This opti is old (6 years, but that must be 18 in Opti-years as their degradation rate seems highly accelerated compared to other parts) and I don't mind tearing it down again as long as I know I'm installing the cure.

Remember to hook your air hoses up correctly. Vacuum port is on the BOTTOM and the fresh air hose from the air filter is on TOP. Condensation always runs down hill so you can pull it out the bottom of the opti when the engine makes vacuum.
