My Car and Driver July 2002 issues shows up today. It is all about the Corvette turning 50. I can't wait to sit down and read it. On Page 63 and 64 they talk about what are they worth today. They call the 84 Vette the bargain basement of vettes !!! Why because of the shape being around till 1996, and they built 51,547 units. To make matters worse the last line is, "The 84 will never appreciate" Ah, in 20 years is that statement still going to be true ? I have seen some great 84's at shows. It is stuff like this that C4's don't get the respect they should !!!! That same car was car of the year in 84. It makes me :mad :mad :mad
Remember the old saying about opinions and aholes...everyone has one. Do you know when "Gone With The Wind" first came out, some critics said it would be a flop?
I have an 84 and i don't care if it appreciates. The mag is right about one thing they are a bargain. I don't race or care to mod so i have pretty much the looks of a 96 for 5 G's. You can't beat that with a stick. Would i like a 96 better. You bet your sweet behind. Is it worth car payments when i bought a beautiful looking 84 for peanuts and own it outright. No way. I'd rather sink my money into other toys and endevors like flying around Fishers island sound at 70 mph on my Sea Doo in 6 foot chop. Now thats fun. I think the 84 is one of the best automotive deals out there. to the 84. F the critics:)

I haven't read the article but have heard about it. . Someone asked me if mine was an '89 a couple of weeks back, so only us "die-hards" really know the differences. To say they are never going to appreciate because they made over 51,000. I don't really buy that either. The Crossfire is slow by today's standards, but in 1984 like someone else said it was car of the year and the fastest production domestic. This is the only C4 to have it also. I'm sure we lost many of the 51,000 over the last 19 years. So that point alone will give it the "rare" element that some collectors look for. So at some point, this car is going to be rare. :yesnod: Worth anything ?? Who knows what will be collectable another 20 years from now. I love it and that is all that matters  Anyways...How many other cars made back in 84 would you pay $5,000 for today??
It's Car & Driver what do ya expect  They aren't fans of vettes. The thing to remember, is it is a one year made only C4. There are no other C4s like it. The other is, since it was mass produced, the car shops ans salvage lots are canobolizing them like crazy. This means less and less of them every year.
Every Corvette goes through a phase that warrants a bargain basement price. Then they always accrue value. Just look at the history of this car
the 63 was ragged on so bad when it came out they changed the window. Every vette ever made has eventually surpassed its purchase price and become valuable. So will the 84. Wait 10-15 years finding an original example wont be as easy as today, with so many lost over the years and many butchered.
