Has any installed Muffler Eliminators for Corvette Central on a 86. I am looking for a louder system but do not want interior drone. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
No matter what anybody else tells you, you will have some drone with muffler eliminators.
The fact that your even asking tells me you are concerned with this.
You are going to hear some chime in and say they don't have any drone.
What they really mean is, they like that sound or it does not bother them.
What might sound "sweet" to one person, very well could be bothersome to someone else.
I have eliminators on my '96. I like the sound.
Wife hates the drone in certain rpm ranges.

Also, any competent muffler shop can remove your existing mufflers and install some pipe. Shouldn't take much more than 30 minutes to do the work and probably cheaper compared to the prices shown at CC.
With ordering eliminators from a catalog, you may still have to have the install work done at a muffler shop if you can't get the car up in the air or have to deal with a rusted/corroded connection.
I had a local muffler shop do it on my 95 when I had it.. Purchased a set from CC for my 88 35th ANC... had a hard time aligning one to match the other side of the car finally got them both correct...
Drone ? well yes there is some.. BUT I definitely do not find it at all bothersome.
The LT1 95 however sounded better then the L98 88 does especially at idle ..but once you get your foot into it the 88 has a nice sound ...PLUS it not very much louder then the stock mufflers..
My wife may have an opinion but her opinion is irrelevant...when it comes to my cars

I put a set of the CC ones on my '94 with the rest of the system stock including the resonator.
At first I thought they were incredibly loud, but after driving it a while, I got to like the sound. Since I sold that car, I really miss it.
It is loud when you use throttle, but can be tamed down so it is not obnoxious when you take it easy, just a deep rumble. Like RollaMoLT4 stated, "you will have some drone with muffler eliminators" , although I didn't think it was too bad at highway cruise speeds (during my 100 mile per day commute).
Do the muffler eliminators bring on the drone if you didn't have it before you put them on? I already have the drone in my LT4, probably because the PO replaced the resonator with 2 healthy chunks of straight pipe. I was wondering if muff elims would make it worse or not. Anybody running them without a resonator notice a big change in the drone?

I'm running an x-pipe in place of the resonator with the muffler eliminators.
I noticed not difference in drone. The drone is worst going up hills at highway speeds say 60-70MPH in 6th gear. Drop down into 5th and its fine. Cruising at 55MPH is about right.
Most of the time I love the sound. Constant RPM's over 1 hour or more of highway driving gets kinda annoying. Since I don't usually use the car for this, I don't care that much.
I will say this if you have the stock resonator in place and put on the eliminators (at least on a LT1) they WILL pop and crackle on deceleration. Since the x-pipe went in, just a smooth sound on decel. only crackles once when the injectors kick back in near idle/slowing down. I suspect an LT4 style H-pipe would do the same thing.

My '94 6M didn't pop and crackle on deceleration with the resonator, just smooth sound. I frequently downshift and engine brake when slowing, and it sounded good.

I wonder if the fact my 93 (also 92') have batch fire fuel injection compared to the sequential fuel injection on the 94-up C4's has anything to do with this? Interesting.
I have a 86. I replaced the front "Y" pipe with one that doesn't have the resonators. I put in a Magna-Flo cat with the muffler eliminators. I like the way it sounds and my wife doesn't complain. There is a little drone.....Just go faster.....

Its funny you mentioned the different injection style between the years. I never thought about it, but the 93 I had did it and the 95 I had didn't. Exact same exhaust on both cars.
I just took out the original mufflers and replaced it with pipes and tips, sounds great. Only pops and crackles when the engine is cold (nice sound) and goes away when warm. As for the droan i just up shift to a higher gear.
So, you learn something new every thread. I had no idea there were different fuel injection systems from year to year.
My ’92 is kinda loud with the eliminators but it sounds great. I will say it is a little much in the cabin on those days that I use it to get to work on surface streets but I usually pull it down to drive instead of overdrive; problem solved. I get the crackle slowing down to some stop light and sometimes I even go for low-2 and really get it popping (makes me wish I had held out for a 6-speed but no regrets since I found one in such good shape).
I think the muffler shop that helped me out for $40 cut the pipes too short and that may be making the drone a little worse than it should be so I was going to get the H-pipe from CC next spring to get the length right and, I am told, get a little more raspy sound.
Based on some of the comments here it sounds like I may lose the popping/crackling on deceleration if I get rid of the resonator – I don’t want to lose that. Is it the injection system or the resonator causing the popping/crackle; did we decide?
I just installed them on my 95 convertible a few months ago. I like them. There is not much drone until you hit 80. Then it gets annoying after a while. If you do a lot of highway driving I wouldn't recommend them. If you drive mostly city they're fine.
get them front corvette central barely any drone on my daily driver. will scare many rustang drivers anyway aswel. for the money its worth it most shops have ****** pipe benders, these will give you a nice clean look out the back here is a pic of what i did you can see what is and what isnt corvette centrals stuff by how ****** the bends are.http://s1325.beta.photobucket.com/us...onsta/library/
II had them on my 84 got them from C C perfect fit snaped and crackled on down shifts. Right now have them siiting in my garage going on my new L T 4 can't wait sounds loud now stock have to cut pipes and replace with clamps. guy wants $100.00 to install the sound on the 84 was unreal I had a shift kit and used it up and down shifting that is what sold the car the sound Guy loved it.

I took them off the 87 vert I had as they could be incredibly loud in certian situations. It was an A4 and when you were climbing a grade in a residential area it really got noisy as the RPMs climbed.
Guess I must be getting old and a bit more socially responsible.

Maybe its a Ruby thing Mine also does this. I have stock exhaust manifolds with 3" stainless from the cats back ( no resonator ) into magnaflow mufflers.
