I am trying to redo the door panels on my 88 and there is an area about 8" long on the top that has pulled away from the backing. I am not sure what to use to glue it back. I would like to do it so that the entire top of the panel lays flat and not have a 'bump' so I need help on what type of glue to use.

The type of adhesive is not as important as the application.
An upholstery glue in a spray can would be good. Weatherstripping adhesive would also work. 3M has a nice collection. Available at your friendly, neighborhood NAPA store.
Tongue depressors are very valuable as a "glue spreading" tool.
I would pull as much of the material away as possible. Easy does it. If the vinyl resists, leave well enough alone.
Then glue. Attach vinyl. Turn panel over on flat service and put weights in place.
