Well, I broke a bolt off replacing one the calipers.
What's the best/easiest way to remove the bolt.
It looks to be about 2 1/2" long with threads being
about 3/4 to 1". So most of the bolt fell out with
some of threaded end remaining, Thanks
Uhg. It sucks but usually you can buy kits at hardware stores that you drill a hole through some of the bolt then tap that hole with reverse threads and thread another reverse threaded bolt into it and keep tightening until old bolt comes out.... or if its too small its a drill out and retap the hole with a bigger bolt and replace.
It sounds like you broken one of the attaching bolts that hold the abutment bracket to the knuckle/spindle and I believe you should have the part in-hand and not still attached to the vehicle. I'm also assuming front.
If that's the case I'd take the bracket to a shop and let them weld a hex nut on the remains and use a wrench. If it's one of the abutment bracket mounting bolts you'll likely use a $100 worth of tools and ruin the bracket also. The remains would also be still there.
Before you do any more wrenching on anything, stop & degrease it & dry it off. Then, mix just a little acetone with some ATF. A bottle cap full will be plenty! Dab in onto the remains of the bolt so it can soak into the threads. Let it sit for an Hr. or so and it will make removal much easier.
