Default Hood Latch Cable Broke. Help!

My hood latch on the drivers side won't release. I think the cable on that side either came loose or is broken, so my hood won't open. Has anyone faced this kind of problem before. Is there any way to reach the cable or latch from underneath the car?

yes I have read on this forum of people removing the inner fender panel and releasing the latch with their hand. there is also a tool you can buy which goes under the hood with the door open to release the latch. one of the vendors on this forum sells it. good luck.

Here is what I used while back.
Get metal wire hanger, and stretch it out grabbing the hook and pull it to stretch it. Then make slight bend, and slip it into hood, watch out for your hood seal, peal it up, and slip in where the latch is, and go fishing. Slowly give it pull try to grab release, once you feel it, give it pull, and it will release.
Good Luck.

There is only about a billion threads on this topic. There's no excuse for not having installed emergency release cables. So easy, and yet it seems most owners haven't done it.

OK, thanks for the admonishment. I already feel stupid. Didn't know there was any such thing as "emergency release cables". So when you're done beating me up, tell me what they are and how to find/install them. (LOL, of course!)

OK - C'mon, vendor-guy - speak up and tell me about this "hood release tool".

Here is a pic of mine. Cost me $0. If the regular cable breaks, you just pull on the emergency one, which lies under the edge of the hood out of sight.

This won't help you with your current predicament, but I think the Ecklers cataloque has the tool you need. Look at the pic there, and then make one yourself. Easy-Peasy. The tool engages the latch lever, then twist to open. It may take a number of tries though.

that's what I did. Then I installed home made emergency release cables.

I have zip ties looped together. They work, and I used dark green to match the vette.
