questionable Ruby
Ok, I found this Vette
1993 40th Anniversary Ruby Red Corvette for sale. Car has less than 10,000 miles on everything under the hood, paint (by Chevrolet dealer), weather stripping, rotors, calipers, shocks and tires. Car is in great shape and everything works well. $14,000 O.B.O. may consider partial trade. Located in Fort Payne, Alabama.
I emailed the guy and he replied, but only said to call him. He's had it for sale for over a month now...
What questions should I ask him? I'm a bit conscerned over the fact that its been repainted and has 10k miles on everything under the hood.
Think my first question will be has it been wrecked....
With everything done to that car it sounds like it's got a new motor with under 10k miles, but the car sounds like it got over 100k miles.
Sounds like the car probably has higher miles, and has 10K on an engine rebuild. Go look at it, and then run a carfax if you're still interested. I would definitely ask the actual mileage and check the dealer records for the paint job. Should show up on the dealer computer network I believe.

Re: questionable Ruby (VetteBabe1)
Vettebabe1: I'll definatly get a carfax done. Thanks for the dealer suggestion too, never thought of that. Oh, and btw, sorry for what your going through, read your post and all i can say is that sucks, and get a lawyer... dont give up that vette... btw, how'd you make out with the coil/sparkplug problem?
I do love my car, just wish I had the title! If I could get the old owner on the phone it would be all fixed I am sure. Hopefully that will happen.
We replaced the coil packs (ended up none tested bad after removal), all plug wires, plugs and the MAP sensor. Not sure which it was but it runs fine now. ;)

Congrats on the fix!!! Now, if you do have to sell the car back (which you best not do) you can charge them extra! (say about 3500 extra, like the offer they tried giving you.... just minus the split.
1) ask about the waterpump and opti, although if everything HAS been replaced it should be good.
2) the repaint might just be becuase of the condition of the paint. EVERY ruby I've ever seen with more than about 25K has stonechips. If they were pretty bad I'd think they'd get it repainted (mine will be for that exact reason).
3) Check the condition of the carpets, seats (esp the driver's side boslter) floor mats and center caps. All this stuff is more expensive because the Ruby is a limited car. $130 for center caps, $200 to get my bolster fixed, $600 for carpets if it needs it (mine doesn't), $100 for mats etc.
4) Tires! It did not have run flats, it has Eagle GSCs from the factory. Check the condition, if they're the original tires they'll need to be repalced soon. If they've been replaced check the tread. Runflats are sometimes put on, but those suckers are EXPENSIVE!!
5) See if it has LTPWS, FX3 selective ride control, Bose Gold, and the upgraded climate control. These are all upgrades. Drive for at least 3 miles as that's when the "service LTPWS" light will come on if one or more of the sensors is bad

Re: questionable Ruby (vetteweiser)
DEFINITELY a Carfax bro. Make no mistake. The first thing you should ask the guy is the VIN number. Then order that sheet. Second thing to ask him is whether it was wrecked. Third is how many miles on the actual car........and fourth is what he actually put in under the hood(Carfax should say all this obviously but ya never know.). The rest is all intuition.Take a test drive and Trust yer instincts. GL.
Don't forget to peep her out real good for OIL leaks, too. Oil pans, timing cover seals, intakes, valve covers, oil filter O-ring and rear main seals (among other areas) are all prone to leakage on LT-1 engines.
Good old GM opted to use RTV silicone in place of standard gaskets in many of these locations. Guess what thermal stress and synthetic oil does to this stuff over time...

First of all I think that's a very fair price for that car with the milage, (assuming it's over 100K and that's why it's been rebuilt). MOST Rubies on the market right now are way over priced. The sellers still seem to think they're worth what they were 2 years ago and that's just not the case. For a Coupe with lowish miles in excellent shape, I'd pay no more than $17-18K, and convertible about $21K. I got a real deal on mine because the seller failed to realize the significance of the 40th package in it's long term value, you might be stumbling upon the same situation.
Obviously if it's been wrecked that also contributes to the lower price, but that does not mean it hasn't been rebuilt correctly. Have a good shop look it over if you decide to proceed on it.
