I joined this forum today, posted my introduction, and it was suggested I find my way to this particular part of the forum. Here's my story...My husband has wanted a Corvette forever. I see him looking at ads almost every day and I fully intend to surprise him with one sometime this year...hopefully within the next few months. He doesn't want a new one (which is good because that is completely out of the budget) and would be perfectly happy with one that is under $10,000. It will be a daily driver and we want either t-tops or a convertible and speed! Beyond that, we're not terribly picky. This is where the responders to my introduction suggested I look at the C4 Corvettes and why I am here now. What advice do you have for me? What are some things I need to be aware of? Once I actually start seriously looking, am I allowed to post cars I'm looking at and get opinions on here? Thanks in advance for any help!

Feel free to post up a potential purchase and plenty on here will give you a opinion as to it's worth. (opinions will vary )
Most would say buy the latest model , lowest mileage you can afford , preferably with a documented service history.
There are well documented minor problems , mostly age related and some years are "less desirable" because of known problems
92/93 for example can have problems with the engine computer that is no longer available
FWIW
C4 coupes have a one piece removable roof section that can be taken off and stored in the rear ,
so long as your golf clubs are not in the way

The last of the C4's would be the best buys, if you can afford it look for a ZR1 (quad cam all aluminum engine) 375 hp for the earlier ones and 405 hp for the 92 onwards. You just need to get in and drive one of them beauties, the ZR1 is a work of art.
The air bag for driver started in 1990 and dual airbags 1994
For a pure daily driver the 85 through 91 model C4s are awesome. They have by far the coolest looking engine Chevrolet ever designed.
The 85 -90s also have one of the most awesome tail ends, the round tail lights, and Gills on the sides of the car.
For a pure looker, you can't go wrong with the 80s cars.
I recommend the 88 through 89s personally since they have the same suspension as the 90s+ (the car got a redesign in 88 suspension wise).
You can also find them in good shape fairly cheap. Mine needed only minor work, and I got it for a song of 5800.
All C4s are loads of fun to drive though.
There's some quick fixes you'll have to do whatever year you get though, some are easier than others. (an easy one is to double seal the targa top, and double seal the doors. If you can clean a counter top, and safely use a knife, you can do it with ease, some of the not so easy ones, would be something like if the Digital Dash isn't working for example)
I recently bought a ZR1 and gotta tell you it is an absolute blast, but like so many limited production cars parts are more difficult to find and can be expensive. Couldn't recomment one as a first Vette. Good luck with your search.
Learn how to use the search and advance search functions which will help you greatly. When you find something then let us know. You might also look in the C4 for sales section. One advantage using this section is that you can do a search on the owner and find out what kind of issues and repairs they have done to the car since belonging to the Forum.
Welcome! If possible, find someone in your area who's knowledgeable about Corvettes to look at them when you find one. Not
hing's worse than finding a dream car and it turning into a nightmare because it's a lemon.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
