some dude is selling me a 1989 corvette 8 cylinder automatic. 140,000 Mileage. paint is in great conditiong. for the last 3 years he has paid 10,000 in restoration, engine, trany, catalytic converter and pre converters, exhaus. he wants $5,500. What do u guys think?

What shape is the paint in?
Check the tire wear, and make sure there's no stains on the back of the engine up top or down below, and check along the rest of it too.
If it's in good shape, I'd call that right on target.
Make sure you take plenty of pictures before you buy or even test drive it too. Have a couple of cars in mind to go look at to put the sweat factor on him too.

Melting Slicks
If the car's engine and trans are redone and by a reputable shop with receipts, and the car is as clean as spending $10,000 would suggest, I'd say $5500 is spot on. I paid $5300 for my '86 3 months ago. A clean, low mileage, original car, but 3 years older, and while maintained, not much new on it.

Seems like a fine price if all that work has been done. If you are not familiar with Vettes or cars in general, have a local forum member check it out with you - otherwise get a prepurchase inspection by a trusted mechanic.
