Finally decided that I needed to put something on the underside of the targa to give it a finished look. I purchased my top without any liner - only the velcro strips.
I wanted something that was thin as possible due to my height and the possibility of a helmet in the future. I'm 6'2" and my head is really close to the top already.
Anyway, I grabbed some carpet from Pep Boys. It came in a 4x6 roll and is really light weight. I used some 3M spray adhesive (90) and trimmed with a razor knife. Used a razor scraper to remove the velcro and made sure that the surface was clean.
Easy.
Washed her up and shot some cool pics. It was a chilly 80 here today in Louisiana
Looks good. I did something similar last February on my top. I had some black vinyl left over from another project and I glued it to the top with Loctite heavy duty spray adhesive. But due to the hot weather in Mississippi it started to come loose by the end of May. Let us know if yours stays adhered when it gets really hot outside.
The heat down here is why I used 3M High Strength 90 Spray Adhesive (green can).
My whole interior (black) is done with this stuff.
She has seen two Louisiana summers so far.
I'll try the green can spray 90 when I do mine again. Thanks for the info, and again yours looks great. What kind of backing in on the carpet you used?
Very nice. I did mine in fake black leather. I tried to sew in a red fake leather stripe in the center but I suck at doing that kind of sewing, kept jamming up. looks just like my dash texture.
A while back I redid my dash with stretch vinyl (and the glove box lid). I filled in the speaker holes and it came out real good - and much cheaper than a new pad. I could not find a suitable (thin and light) backer board for the headliner to cover in the vinyl. I think vinyl directly on the underside would have been "2nd degree burn" hot during the summer (especially when the Vette was black before repaint).
Have noticed a lot of glare from the dash so I am trying to find a nice material to redo that. Maybe a black canvas or suede. Cover up the defroster vent (all the AC/heat stuff is gone now anyway).
