Default sys light

I usually start my 1996 at least once a week and will let run for 10-15minutes. Car is garage kept and temp usually goes no lower than 59. On the rare occasion that i dont start the car for 10 days or so i notice that the start is a harder one and the sys light will come on and blink . After letting the car run for 5 minutes i shut off and restart and sys light is gone. The battery is only one year old. What could be triggering sys indicator to come on?

Most probable cause in the situation you describe, is a low battery.

SYS blinking indicates an issue with the electrical system.

Letting your car sit for 10 days, and then just starting it and letting it run for 10-15 minutes will eventually kill your battery.
That 10-15 minutes of run time isn't enough to keep the battery charged.

If your going to let the car sit for any length of time, you might want to consider a battery tender.
Note: There is a difference between a battery tender and battery charger.

May be just indicating low battery voltage. Might explain why it goes away after running.

Disconnect the neg on your battery.

May lose a few presets, but it helps.

If your going to start it, you need to go for a ride. Letting it idle is not good at all for it. Put a tender on it and leave it alone until you can go for a long ride.

I found that out today when I took my vette out this morning, I guess it had been about 3 weeks since I drove it last with the snow and ice storms and below freezing temps. Anyway it barely started and the "SYS" light was flashing. Took her on the freeway for about 50miles round trip at 70mph and it's charged up again!
