I spent sat cleaning and repairing small things on my 90 vert interior. My buddy came by to brag on my new toy and make me feel good. We were making observations about differences between his 85 coupe and my 90 vert. Some things were obviously just model changes but others have me curious. My front cross member is much heavier, (maybe not a cross member, it sits behind the steering rack.) is this a model change or a difference because of being a vert. I know most all verts have frame stiffeners to make up for the lodss of the roof section. This is why verts are heavier. I also noticed I can see the 82s styling carried over in his dash. (save for the digital insts) The 82s front bumper can also be seen in the 84-90 as well as the 68-73 styling in the rear. (I would like to see a set of chrome bumpers mocked up on the rear of an 84-90.) Anyway, are the structural changes mostly coupe vrs vert or model changes?
Another thing I learned from a book he loaned me, the ZR1 is physicaly wider in the rear, not just the wheels. The body flares out about mid door. Probably not new news to you guys but a shocker to me. I have much to learn sen say.

Maybe expand on this. The front "K member" shouldn't be any different through out the C4 run. Maybe yours has crud built up on it that makes it look different?

Don't let Dizwiz24 see that!
No, what ever it is, it's clean. It's much beefier than his though.
I don't know GM/Corvette terminoligy yet so it's probably me. Let's see, you have a slanted back radiator. Behind the radiator is the steering rack. Between the rack and the motor is this brace I'm talking about. It looks to be on top the frame and is a lot heavier than Marks 85. He pointed it out and we didn't know why it was different. I wish my camera haddn't crapped it's self, I'd just show you.

Sounds like what you are describing is a camber brace.
He is simply referring the the rectangular bar right between the rack and pinion and the crank pulley. It apparently is beefier in the verts. The later Callaways called this a "wonderbar" and made it larger to carry inlet air from the filters to the turbos.
