Thanks to you on the Corvette Forum my 90 Vette C-4 350 TPI 6 spd ZF manual trans with 70K is running sweet.Bought the car while on Vacation in NY State last fall and drove the car back to Arizona. We were a little nervous as the car had a few minor probs. (loose exhaust, headlight wouldn't open on one side, stuff like that. Well I fixed all and got it running right and we're getting ready to take a trip to Michigan in it. The car got great mileage from NY to Az. What I'd like to know ( since I've never owned a Vette before) How to prepare for the trip and maybe some things to look for that might be a problem. We are going to travel Route 66 whats left of it :-). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering since you said you've only had a few minor problems but have since fixed them and your car is running great, why your call name here is "moneypitvette"?

Well, I was frustrated at the time I joined this forum because after the exhaust and headlight gears the car wasn't running well at all. I started to throw more parts at it and more parts at it and I thought it was going to be head gaskets, injectors etc. I was starting to think it was going to be a money pit at the time and the name was a joke more then anything else. The problem is now I'm stuck with that name and it's really no big deal.

Congratulations on the car running right and fixing the problems. You said you threw some parts at it while getting it running but if you have not already done the following, I would before taking any long trip.
1. Change the fuel pressure regulator - they get old, leak and cause fires. To me, this is probably one of the most important things to do.
2. Check fuel injectors.
3. Spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor.
4. Check sparkplugs and change if necessary.
5. Flush/refill cooling system and check/change any old cooling system hoses along with the thermostat. Check waterpump.
6. Replace old vacuum hoses.
7. Check/replace if necessary brake pads and rotors. Inspect brake hoses - if they look old and are cracking, replace them then flush the system.
8. New drive belt.
9. Flush/bleed clutch.
10. Check rear trans and diff fluid level.

Last year after doing the majority of the things on this list over the course of six months (I am getting old and slow), the wife and I took a weeklong trip to Maine. The car didn't miss a beat and we had a great time. Have a great trip.

Silver96ce I think the things you suggested are exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I am also old and don't relish the thought of being on a road somewhere in the middle of nowhere and working on the car. While I was throwing parts at it I did plugs, wires, rotor, dist. cap, fuel filter, clean injectors, air filter, change oil and filter, serviced the trans and rear end,and cleaned about 5 tons of stuff that accumulated between the radiator and A/C condenser ( it looked like a wool blanket) so it runs nice and cool now . I will do the fuel pressure regulator, belts and hoses, flush cooling system, flush and bleed clutch thank you for the good info sir and good luck to you and your wife .
