When i got my 86 it had a VATS bypass on it and no VATS key. i went to the dealer to get a VATS key so i would have one. well they said the car was to old and couldn't look it up. they said for 2-3 hours labor they would be happy to try to figure it out, i said no.
I went to a local locksmith to get a non chipped key so i would at least have 2 keys, well he didn't have any but said he had a VATS key that was miscut and would try to cut it for my car even though the chip was probally wrong it would at least be an extra key. i just had to leave VATS off. I went out today and switched VATS on just to try it. well i'll be damned, it worked! i usually have the worst luck in the world. i can't beleve it! i tried it twice, well at least now i have a VATS key! and it only cost me $10.00!
On my 84 non-vats car, there is a problem in the system that I haven't had time to dive into yet. If the doors are locked when I try to deactivate the security system the horns go off and of course I am unable to start the car. The only way to reset it is to disconnect the battery. I tried everything. No, the key in the drivers door doesn't deactivate it... First day I bought the car was quite embarrassing to say the least! I just dont keep anything important inside and dont lock the doors. I live in a small town and keep the car garaged anyway. Another spring project...
Try the passenger door! Either should disarm the alarm.
Thanks for the advice, but...Nope...nothing disarms it. At one point I disconnected the horns, and activated the system so that I could troubleshoot without being deafened. You can hear the clicking of the system sounding the horns, but nothing I do deactivates it. Go figure... like I said, another spring project!
