I realize this can't be diagnosed in a forum, and I'm obviously going to take my '90 to get looked at (yet again), but I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced the following:
I got a rebuilt transmission put in two years ago. Ever since, seems like there's absolutely no acceleration between 0-30. Plus, when I step on it from 0, at about 30, I'll hear a grinding that's like when you run over safety bumps between lanes on the highway. I was told the problem was fixed by tightening two loose bolts on the carrier for the drive shaft, but I just took it out for a spin, and the problem's still there.
Like I said, I know this can't be diagnosed online, but has anyone ever experienced anything similar?
sounds like the transmission may not be shifting into first gear at all. that could explain some of the sluggish acceleration. it may be only using third gear and fourth gear. from a stop can you count the trans shift three times?
imo, the issue should have been corrected on the initial test drive by the shop or by taking the car back the first time it acted up.
from a stop, count how many times the transmission shifts as you accelerate up to a highway speed when you know the transmission will be in overdrive. you should count three shifts as the car accelerates through the gears.
Just got a call from the Corvette specialist. He says he can't find anything mechanically wrong with the transmission. All he noticed is the tires spin when you really press down on the gas. So he thinks I may need a new set of tires. Tires haven't been replaced since '99. They still have some tread left, but maybe that's the answer.
