For the most part the Bose Gold in my 94 works like its supposed to but I still want to put JBL speakers in it. The head unit works fine but the light for the digital readout is dead. Almost impossible to see after dark. Anybody ever been inside the head unit to change these? Would like a little insight before I try it myself. Thanks!

Try posting your question in the Audio/Electonics section of the Forum. You will get lots of answers. The Bose speakers in the car have their own amps so simply swapping the speakers for aftermarket units won't work.

Yes, I've been inside the head unit to change a light bulb. You have to de-solder the bulb and re-solder the new ones in. I think there are three of them, but maybe it's just two. I don't remember the bulb part number, but after I got it out I went to Radio Shack and got the new one.

IIRC, you CANNOT do that. You either change the whole system or not at all. I dumped it. I thought there was some sort of adapter to make aftermarket speakers work but I can't be sure.
