Rear Suspension
85 vette - would a weak spring cause the tops of the rear wheels to point inward (looking from the rear), or is that another problem

Not the spring. There is a "dog bone"also called the spindle support rod I believe. There is a "cam bolt" on the inside of these rods near the differential. If the bolt comes lose, the cam will rotate and the tires will shift inward (top of the tires). You can take this to a tire shop and they should be able to re-position the rod and put the cam in the correct position. The cam bolt gets torqued to 153 - 213 pounds.....yea....very tight. If you removed this working on the car, you should have marked the cam in the original position. If so, then just twist the cam until the mark lines up and then tighten the S**T out of the nut.
