I was with a friend at a very large dealer auction and there was an '89 coupe there. It had 39K on it, red, grey interior, automatic, looked to be in very good shape with the exception of the back tires. The fronts were Goodyears in good shape, the backs were Kuhmo's that were very very worn. As a buyer, I would have figured this to be an $8k car, the bidding went as high as $10.7K and the seller didn't sell it.
Am I way off? What should a car like this sell for?
Car's only worth 7 tops even with those low miles. To put it into perspective, a C5 can run as low as 11, to 12 grand. And it's worlds beyond the capability of that 89 overall. (even if that 89 were a Z51 and the C5 were a -base- car)
Also if the backs (but the fronts aren't) that worn it's probably not in as good of shape as it looks on the surface anymore
Car could be ok but when i see bald rears or fresh rears and old fronts in my mind the car has been beat to crap by some idiot and could have issues. Dont want.
There is a REAL real clean black 89 6 spd on Los angeles CL for $6500 1 owner. Car is gorgeous and a fair deal.
I think it's a very fair price. Not highly optioned but looks great.
Which one, the craigslist one or the auction one?
I think the craigslist one is a much better deal. I was surprised at how high the dealers were bidding. I thought they might go over the $8k I thought it was worth because on a car lot, a good looking Corvette can go for good money to someone that doesn't know the market, but I was surprised at how far it went. They must think they can get $14k for it.

Sorry, I thought there was only one. The Craigslist one.

A case of two fools meeting. Actually more likely the case of a shill bidder.
Havent called him yet...cause it will come home with me. lol
Just what I need another one
Someone pull the trigger thas a good deal on a clean 89 6 spd

That's indeed possible...and the "shill bidder" may have been a friend of the car's owner. But at an auction, where a lot of people may not be "corvette savvy", they tend to get carried away with their bidding. Know what you're willing to pay, and stick to that number.
Was at an auction where I knew the owner, who had a couple vettes go through, and he was amazed at what one couple paid for one corvette that he thought was near worthless. Even after he had trouble getting it started, to show prospective bidders. But they were thrilled beyond belief, judging by their expressions, when they won the bid.

If that car was on the east coast I would be all over it.... . Then I would have one 89 for the street and my 383 89 Vette would start doing autocross. I really like the 89 cars, they were the best of the early C4s.....WW

The other half is calling on it for me.
Cant drive a house but I can sleep in a car
Really dont want another one but unless something is really wrong with it hard to say no to that. Most 89s are way cheaper but are way hammered too.
If you don't have a 6 speed C4 yet, or haven't had one you'll be in for alot of joy.
I saw one but didn't bite because the owner must have been high. He wanted 14 for it and it was a 92 (so it had the not as attractive rear end).
The ZF6, T56 (C5s and Gen 4 F cars trans) and the 5 speed in the gen 4 F cars were joys to drive.
Had a ZR1 familiar with the 6 spd and an 89 auto.
The combo of the two would be nice....I like the lighter feel and quick steering of the 89. Do like the dash/wheels of the 90 better but still.
Also dig grey interiors better but damn that thing is so clean.
I swore off Vettes a few yrs back cause I know what they are about and hate working on them honestly...but! well see.
