Default Engine/trans install

what is the best way to install the engine/trans auto in my 87, place them in separate or as one unit. I plan to take the hood off. That might
be better to place them as one. What are everyones thoughts, thank you.

Leave the hood on and the radiator in place. Drop the engine complete except for the distributor and flexplate in all together. And I mean all together including exhaust manifolds or headers, accessories, sparkplugs, everything. Then put the transmission in, and whatever you do, do not forget to put the transmission dipstick tube in before installing the transmission. Trust me, you don't want to wrestle it in after the transmission is mounted.

Why leave the distributor out before installing the engine?

So it doesn't get destroyed against the firewall.

when you tilt the engine back to get it on the mounts, the distributor will hit on the firewall.

There is very little clearance with everything in place. How in the hell do you guys work on these things. I considered pulling distributor,to replace the intake manifold gaskets, I could just barely get the plug wire ring around the top to come off.(It is up against firewall molding). It did not look like there was clearance to get the distributor out. My quick fix is holding. No code 32 yet. I stopped the leak.

Lots of ways to skin a cat..Trans first if you have a Trans jack

Then Engine..

Just leave the cap off the Dizzy..it won't hit the firewall

Install the flexplate before engine install.. YMMV....Feel free to PM me...

Do it often enough and it becomes a piece of cake.
You learn to work by feel only on bolts you can't see
The dist is a straight lift out but you have to squeeze it past the hood seal
