Out for a late cruise in Basil, my '86 silver coupe tonight. Took a run down Route 130 near Allentown NJ, and a familiar silhouette flashed by my right side. I circled back, thinking perhaps it was my imagination. But then the car caught my eye again, parked at the edge of a gravel parking lot attached to a wrecking yard. It was a c4- and an early silver example, to boot. The wheels indicated an '87. I pulled into the lot and shined the brights on my car's Doppelgänger, then got out for a look. The OEM style Eagle GT+4s were horribly cracked and dried out. The silver leather (Basil's is red) had seen much better days. And the NJ inspection sticker was almost 8 years expired. The For Sale sign was in the windshield but had fallen out of view.
It was really pretty eerie, my clean, well-kept car's lights illuminating this dusty example that looked to me like an unearthed relic from a time long past. Did not get a look at the price or the mileage- but daylight will come.
Took some pics this morning. Could make a good driver. Some marginal paint work on the left quarter. Dash pad is MIA. If you could steal it for $1500-2000 assuming it runs ok, it would make a good DD to keep you from bringing out the garage queen in the inclement weather.
Its not as bad as the pics would suggest, but it is not great. I called and they told me the asking price was $4000. Runs great according to the guy at the garage. New fuel pump and battery. Tires are awful- rotted beyond belief. Dash pad is out but they have it. He said "He's already turned down $3000". But I bet he wouldn't again.
I don't think if he had any sense he'd turn away 2500.
Not more than once anyway.
Man, what a shame seeing the car in that kind of shape. Especially with OEM rotten tires. Seriously, how the hell did someone justify having those on the car? Ever?
