Default Backup Light Switch Wiring

I have a 89 convertible I picked up real cheap with various problems. Needs a top, backup lights don't work, a/c needs a recharge and the interior needs an overhaul. I figured it will be a good project for my son and I to work on.

My son and I got the car home from storage and put it up on the jacks today to tackle the backup lights. Read over my SM several times and did some research on the web. We were ready to tackle the first problem.

What I found out under the car is somewhat of an electrical mess. I did figure out it looks like a new backup light switch was installed. The blue lead was connected to a fused wire (melted) and then to the new switch.

The other lead that came from the switch connected to a red wire. Now I was looking for a light green wire. Tracing the red wire, it runs up behind the battery and then down into the door jam.

Knowing I need to replace the carpet, I decided to remove all the carpet and see what was underneath.

I found no red wire, but I did find that someone ran a screw thru the door jam cover on the passenger's side right into the wiring harness.

Now I figure that is where the light green wire runs and why the previous person ran a separate wire.

Can anyone shed some light and images on where the backup light switch connects to the lt. green wire?

Once I figure that out, I will post a few pics of some melted connectors in hopes of trying to figure out what they are for.

Thanks in advance,

Steve
