Need Help, engine,transmission problem????

I was driving last night(1989 vette) and noticed something strange the car takes off great fast acceleration but when the rpms reach about 2.5-3 and over theres nothing almost like the car is in neutral then it shifts and accelerates hard until 2.5 rpms.....I have no idea what caused this, just randomly started...Need Help Fast

First: do a TV cable adjustment.

If that doesn't fix it, change the transmission fluid.

If that doesn't fix it, see a transmission shop.

tv cable......? but new trans fluid and filter around 500 miles ago
