What octane do u use on your ride? I was using 93 from the pump in my car for the longest time most of the cars just say unleaded but i recently down graded to 87 mid-grade and im not sure but i think my car hates it! i get some weird chugging up-hill now and im not sure if its the gas or to do with something else anyone have any thoughts?
its a stock crossfire 84 L83 350, i have just manifold back true duel exhaust, muffler deletes, k&n air filter and a hypertech streetrunner chip no major mods no bores no heads no cam even still has a stock intake manifold
You said "87 octane mid-grade". 87 octane gas is usually the lowest octane rating and referred to as "regular grade". Did you mean 89 octane as mid-grade?
With 87 octane the car should run but any sort of load, even a light load, on the engine should produce ping and it can be easily heard. 89 octane should help to reduce pinging but it will be still be present with medium to hard acceleration. IIRC, the 87 L83 had a 9:1 compression ratio so a 89 octane should work for light street use and cruising.
If you have yor foot in it more often than not, then it would be a good idea to stay with the 93 octane premium gas.
I tried 89 octane once, still heard a little knock in engine. Just kept using 93 octane. Should be getting the summer gas mixture now, whatever that is....
I use 93 in all my cars and my truck, they just run better.
Theres only about 20 cents difference between 89 & 93, so on a 20 gallon fill up
it's only $4.00 more.
