Default Targa Won't Align....

I have 1986 coupe. I just installed new weather stripping over the halo and on the targa. I have been trying for a day to screw in the targa. I only managed to get the front driver's side in.

Is there any tricks to get the targa back in???

Thanks...

Did you get the two rear bolts in? New weather stripping needs to be compressed some to be able to get the front bolts to catch. You will need to have someone push down on the top so that you can get the front bolts in. It may be necessary to loosen the bolt that you got in over the drivers side so that it is just holding. This will allow the passenger side to be pushed down easier.

That's my problem I can't get the rear bolts in at all. The front bolt is out now. I even had my friend almost sit on it. It just won't go down enough.

Definitely get the rear bolts started first. Maybe have the friend push back while you push down and start the bolt.

Then the front bolts should be a matter of just getting enough down force to start the bolts.

BTW, a little silicone WS grease may help the top slide over the new WS.

Make sure that you have the weather stripping set in the channels correctly. Silicon grease will definately help.

Wait for a hot day, park your Vette in a sunny flat spot and try again. If your carefull, a heat gun will work. DO NOT try to force it or you will crack the top. (assuming its acrylic).

just install new strips on mine
what a bitch
hold the back down with 1 hand and start the bolt with the other
get 3 or 4 threads in them go to the other side rear

it should suck it back enough to start the bolts
just dont strip them

Default Targa

OK...I got it. I parked it in the sun and put a little white grease on the weather stripping. I had my friend actually sit on the roof. I didn't like that idea but; it worked. Now I wonder when I can take off the top. I guess I will have to carry a heavy guy with me at all times!!!
