Default C4 seats backs

Well I am ready to go deep into the itnerior now that the engine compartment has been cleaned up on my recently purchased '85. I got the seat bottoms off, since a lot of foam will ave to be replaced. But, can somone tell me how to get the seat back off? I am refering to the plastic cover. I found some plugs and thought there would be some screws under them, but the pugs wont budge. There must be another golden secret that is not in the manual once again.

Since no one has replied yet, I'll offer this: On my 92, which also has the hard seat-back, there are wire clips that hold the back on. You have to push the leather away in order to see the clips, top and bottom on each side. Mabe the 85 is diferent, but........

I believe all the early C4's have those clips and you have to squeeze the long metal framing of the seat cushion inward and down to get them to bind into those clips. I'll be honest, took a bit of wrestling with it before I got mine to finally click in. Laid them on my floor and leaned into the cushion, pushing in and down to get it locked. Good luck!

Instructions I used to do mine last year, on my 88...

The foam seat backs are held in place by metal rods which are molded into the seat foam. The rods are secured to the seat back by a total of four clips per seat which are attached to the hard plastic seat back. If you crowd the seat foam inward, you will see the attachment points. Removal involves pushing each vertical rod inward until it becomes dislodged from each clip. Installation simply involves making sure the rods engage each respective clip. If you have a buddy, wife or girlfriend help you as this really does make a difference.
