Default Electronic Air Conditioning Control problems

So strange things have been happening lately, when I am driving some of the buttons dont respond. The only ones that will not take inputs while it is on, temp down, off, auto. Basically a few buttons on the very far left/bottom.

I have no idea why only a few buttons would stop working or why the A/C still runs fine. It seems like after it has been off for a while all the buttons will work again fine.

Anyone have any idea what is going on??

thanks

Often what you described is caused by dirty button contacts. A fairly easy fix.

An old post, but I think the link still works:

Thanks! the second link looks super helpful, I am new to repairs so the more detailed instructions the better! I am glad it sounds like a pretty small problem, was worried the head unit was going out on me and would have to replace it.

Is there any harm in waiting to do this? I know it will take me a long time to do this because I am slow and not good with repairs so I want to wait till an Air Force buddy of mine is back in the states from a tour cause he is much better with this type of thing. I want to make sure its just a hassle that it doesnt work and that if It wont damage anything by the dirty connections being left for a long time?

Also can i bother you guys with another question, i havent lubed the chassis or axles since i have had the car and its been about a year and I feel like it needs it and I can hear some sounds when I drive slowly that sounds like the wheels or axles.
I was wondering how important it is to do that and if I also put that off for a few months is that going to cause problems for my car or cause any harm by delaying maintenance that I know I need to do.

thanks from a c4 novice!
