Not bashing 89s, but if you have 9k to spend, there are better buys. People fall into the low mileage trap, and once they think it's a low mileage car put blinders on. All pre 90 Corvettes are very easy to adjust the mileage, and it was very often done back then, and very hard to get caught. Now assuming it is actually 55k original, it should be in almost mint condition. That doesn't seem to be the case.
poor....$3k-$4k
average....$4k-$7k
very good...$7k-$9k
mint/museum...$9k up
Generally speaking, the newer the car the better the condition, not even considering the improvements the factory made. People who want a specific year are willing to pay more to get it, others look for the best deal. It should be bright red, not torch red
The new paint should be a red flag... if poorly done; durability would be short lived - leaving you with a major cost in repaint.
At least ask and verify where the paint job was done at.... will determine your next step.

That's something the owner should have service records for...or at least the Carfax, no?

Happened to me, but the paint still looks ok from 10 feet lol
I paid 5500, now its probably worth 2K if I found a buyer.
So I keep fixing it and its good to have a spare car lol
I understand that with my budget I should be looking for a newer model C4 but so many of the newer model corvettes for sale locally are WAY overpriced
Asking price is hardly the actual selling price. Hard cash in hand makes the right deal.
Don't be afraid to drive a few miles or even fly in to drive out when getting the car you want.
In my opinion, buying a Vette should be an experience to be enjoyed, so make the best out if it within your budget.

I think my problem is I`m afraid to buy over the border because I dont fully understand the process or the costs associated with importing the car back home

I just bought a 95 ragtop in immaculate condition with only 44k kilometers on it. Paid $16k CAD
That info raises a red flag and doesn't really add up. Only 55K but it needed paint and the interior is in only in fair condition? A supermodel shouldn't look like rosie o'donnell at 24. And a lot of people are "asking" way more than their car is worth.
Either the odometer was rolled or the car was left outside its whole life.
was it well maintained maybe maybe not.
You should find out on getting one over the border
Came very very close to picking up an absolutely perfect black 89 6 spd a few mos ago could be had in the bottom 6k range and this thing was perfect perfect top to bottom inside/out.
Open your options and be patient..get a car that talks to you not one you settle for or the whole experience of ownership will pizz you off.
Hi, I imported a car and as long as you follow their rules, it's easy.
Did it all myself, no issues. That car sounds like a dog, why fair condition on a 55 mile car, that's a red flag to me.
Mine had 72 on it and the inside seats and dash were perfect.better deals on this Forum, alone.
