I have a Polo Green 2 1996 Lt-4 Vette.
It is not a Grand Sport but has the LT-4 motor and 6 speed manual transmission.
Because of the LT-4 engine & 6 speed trans I was able to join the Grand Sport Registry.I guess that technically makes it a Grand Sport.
True Grand Sports are Dark Blue w/white body length stripes running down the center of the car. The wheels are Black and they do have the fender flares and red hash mark decals on the left drivers side fender. There is a plate located on the throttle-body that says Grand Sport

Only the GS coupes got the flares. No flares on the GS convertibles, since they didn't have the 11" wide rear wheels.
And all LT4 engines have that Grand Sport throttle body plate, not just the Grand Sports.

Ah, no..that is some twisted logic you got going there. I guess people can convince themselves about anything?

I happen to have a 96 LT-4 convertible and love the fact that I've done basically nothing with it and so far have run very well (usually better) against the LS-1 early C-5 Vettes. I do call it a GS (although I am well aware of the fact that it isn't an actual GS) because even many well educated Corvette enthusiasts have no idea why my car is special. I specifically sought it out for the powertrain. I probably would've shot for a full GS, but they are so expensive, and I wouldn't feel right driving it as often.
