I'm the antenna mast master. Let me know what the dilly-o is, homes! I'll lay good money the problem is you've got a broken section of nylon ribbon that's jamming up the gears in your motor and that's why your mast won't fully retract.
May-be...may-be not. I completely disassembled the antenna gear drive and motor after replacing my mast and didn't find a thing! I bought another mast and ribbon assembly - this time I got the exact GM replacement part - and installed it. Antenna still wouldn't retract all the way, stopped 6 inches from going completely into the cars' body. I gave up on the fix and drove the car to work. I always work the antenna up and down after shutting off the car, until it completely seats in the mast so that some azz doesn't snap it off while I'm in the office. The temp went up to 95 on Monday and I noticed that the antenna completely seated when I got home that evening. Maybe the new ribbon just needed the heat soak to bring it into the correct shape - who knows. It's a miracle that it finally works - I've been fighting this problem for almost a year.
