Just got done with test driving a 2001 Z06 Corvette at a dealer in Janesville, WI.
I did the test drive more out of **** and giggles.
It is a beautiful show winning car with documents. Their asking price is $ 32,999.00.
Here is the thing though, in the end it was simply how my long in the tooth, needs some more TLC 86 just feels better. as another CF Member put it in another thread, the C4 just welcomed me and hugged me.
The C5 just did not feel comfy to me. I am a big guy, 6'0" and 276 lbs.
I actually had more issues getting in and out of the C5 than my C4. C4E (C4 Explosion) for life.

I test drove one here in Michigan a while back for a buyer in Houston. It was an 01 Speedway White with a Mod Red interior. Wow - that thing could flat get up and scoot!
I really liked it I am only 5'4" so it was an easy fit for me. I watch the prices and good ones that are not modded all to heck are asking low 20's. They do seem to sit for a while though.

At 6'3 I found the C5 to be way more comortable and roomy. Throw in some 96 CE seats and it would be perfect. Those Z06s have some get up and go....still have a light throw around feel to it kind of like a C4...sorta.
Good machine.
the LS6 was worked over internally and externally, billet goodies on the exterior, some goodies in the interior, an aftermarket hood with functional scoops, and Nitro Oxide.
suppossedly 535 HP at rear wheels then add 75 HP more with the NO2 shot.
Do not misunderstand me, nothing wrong with the C5s. Just the seats and the cockpit feel overall did not feel right for me. I guess I am to use to the closer quarters of the C3 and C4.
I am not looking to buy a C5 right now, I have a couple C4s that I am looking at that are on the forum. The finances have not completely aligned right yet.
Now, if those two I am looking at sell before hand, then I may consider a C5 Z06.
I justy have a couple projects on the "to do" list that are affecting any purchases right now.
$33K? Really? If you look long enough you might even find an '06-'07 Z for that. Maybe not as pristine as I would assume this one is. I know you could find a low mile '08 up with an LS3 for that pretty easily. I would take an LS3 car over the LS6 any time.

I missed this post right here. That sounds like a pretty stout set up. That is one of the big advantages of the LSx motors, the responsiveness to modifications, and the amount of power you can put to a stock rotating assembly. Some guys around here are putting 800 HP on stock bottom ends, amazing.
But I agree about sitting in a C4, it was the last "cockpit" style Corvette. I've also come to the realization in my middle age, that there's more to the driving experience than just "fast".

I've seen this one. There's nothing not to like about that though. Beautiful car.
I'm not a C5 fan by any means, but I must say that this one is really sharp. That color of blue looks fantastic. This one could almost convert me. (I did say, almost)

I was thinking the same exact thing...............
I would not take an LS3 over an LS6, unless it was in a C5 body.
The C6 base body style (other than the Z\GS) has always been too bland looking to me...
Agree with above comments. You can get C5Z's in good condition low $20's these days. That's an awful lot of bang for the buck. And that, along with the LS7 valve drop issues, is what's been keeping me from moving up to a C6Z. They're literally twice the cost. But not twice the car.
As a person that has owned both a C5 and 2 C4s, I can tell you that the C4 is a drivers car. The C5 was softened up to appeal to a broader market, and it generally worked. I thought my C5 was a lot easier to get in and out of, but driving a Z51 C5 felt looser than a Z51 C4 (my brutal 84).
I think we will find that the C7 is going to share the C4 drivers feel that the C5 and C6 never had.
BUT, a C5 Z car is hands down a ***** out performance car. Unless that car has 1500 miles on it, I would forget it because as others have said, its way too high. For $32K you could have a 40k mile C6 that has more HP than the Z!
